The pouch: an example of a successful innovation
Materna’s novel approach recently translated into successful collaboration with one of its customers on a particular innovation. In 2010, Materna saw a clear trend taking shape in the baby food market: the use of flexible pouches.
This format was already widespread in fruit compotes and dessert creams, but was practically non-existent in prepared baby food. But in a world where mother and child are often on the move, this type of packaging offered interesting prospects.
An experimental line was installed in a section of the Courmelles factory to begin developing small production runs. It very quickly became apparent that the product was a viable opportunity, and it is now manufactured in sizeable volumes at the Montigny-Lengrain site. The commercial successes began mounting, month after month, with new developments foreseen in the near future.
