A proven methodology for product development
For Materna, R&D is a value that underpins the company’s performance. This doesn’t mean inventing concepts with no real future – it means examining all the technical, nutritional, economic and regulatory facets that go into product design before even considering large-scale production and distribution. Whether it’s an idea on a piece of paper or a carefully structured briefing, Materna works hand in hand with the customer and in the most absolute confidentiality to create a product that meets its commercial requirements.
To accomplish this, Materna’s R&D center has an unrivalled confidential database of a hundred basic recipes that can be adjusted to suit the project at hand. Then, a test kitchen with very limited access creates the new product, which will be analyzed from every angle: nutritional value, texture, presence of contaminants, nutritional requirements of the baby age group in question, etc. The concept is also screened in terms of the regulatory requirements of the regions for which it is intended. Lastly, it is subjected to economic simulations, such as production cost and reproducibility on a larger industrial scale.
At each stage of this demanding process in which nothing is left to chance, Materna coordinates fully with the customer via a joint project group as the project advances, punctuated by modifications and adjustments. This close coordination and guarantee of confidentiality facilitates project management and saves a considerable amount of time, ultimately translating into continuous commercial responsiveness.
